Salvesen, Roberta J.

SELKIRK- Roberta (Jobson) Salvesen, 89, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Born in South Bethlehem,she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Hotaling) Jobson. Mrs. Salvesen was a graduate and valedictorian of Ravena High School, a graduate of NYS Teacher’s College and the State University of New York at Albany where she earned a Masters Degree. She taught 5th and 6th grade in the Union Free School in Selkirk, English in Windham – Ashland – Jewett Central School, Ravena High School, Ravena-CoeymansSelkirk School District and Cohoes City Schools. Mrs. Salvesen also worked for the NYS Education Department and for the Albany County Department of Social Services as a Caseworker. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Mrs. Salvesen was involved in education, church governance and administration. Mrs. Salvesen and her husband Ben won a community service award in recognition for starting the Bargain Shed Ministry.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ben Salvesen; mother of Bonnie (Sam) Persico and Betsy (Gordon) Blunsdon; grandmother of Salvatore (Misha Bove) Persico, Lena (Adam Hitchcock) Persico and Courtney Frances Blunsdon.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Daughters of Sarah Red Unit for their compassionate and loving care.

Funeral Services will be held privately. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Selkirk.
