John C. O'Hare, Jr.

May 20, 1938 — March 12, 2024

ALBANY- It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of John (Jack) C. O’Hare Jr. 85 of Albany, NY on Tuesday March 12, 2024. Jack passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, after a tenacious battle with a brief illness.

Born and raised in Albany, he graduated from Vincentian Institute and Siena College. He loved and celebrated all things Irish; festivals, food, music, parades, Guinness and whiskey and had been a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He learned the bagpipes in his fifties and played with the Albany Police Pipe & Drums for several years. His love of sports spanned playing VI football and Siena Lacrosse to coaching children’s basketball and baseball to being an avid follower of the Yankees, Brewster Whitecaps and nearly every college sport you can find on ESPN. He was determined to crush the NY Times Sunday crosswords and enjoyed many other complicated puzzles, model boat and train builds.

Before he retired as a Foreman for Callanan Industries, Jack used his knowledge and talent as a carpenter, welder and all-around Mr. fix-it. He was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and spent countless hours volunteering for many Catholic organizations and charities. It would be tough to walk three blocks in Albany and not see a structure he worked on or repaired. With loving support, he lived out his life independent and on his terms.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth M. (Clune), parents John C. O’Hare Sr. and Myrtle E. (Green) O'Hare, siblings; Jayne, Michael, Brian, Mary Ellen and James.

Jack is survived by his children Catherine O’Hare-Insero (Michael), Daniel O’Hare, Sean O’Hare (Elizabeth); his most beloved and treasured grandchildren, Alyson, Madeline, Gabriella, Josephine, Aislinn, Piper, Teresina and Liam. He is also survived by loving siblings, Dennis (Barbara) O'Hare, Patricia Casey, Dorothy O'Hare, Nancy Jensen, Ginger (Michael) Fisher, Joseph (Patricia) O'Hare; and his brother-in-law, Edward Cross. Jack also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved to see during the holidays and family celebrations.

His biting wit and huge heart will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Albany Pipe Band.

His funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday March 19, 2024 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Jack’s family prior to the service from 10 am to 12 noon. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
