Zupan, John J.

d. October 20, 2018

SELKIRK-John J. Zupan, 92, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 after a brief illness.

Born in Rochester, NY and educated in Ravena, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Murgic) Zupan. John worked with his father and brother at Zupan’s Lumber and Logging in Selkirk for more than 60 years.

He was an avid gardener and a diehard fan of the NY Yankees. As a younger man he enjoyed darts, billiards and horseshoes. John was handy with all kinds of machinery, could fix anything, and excelled at woodworking. He enjoyed his daily “breakfast with the boys” at the Silver Spoon Café in Ravena for many years.

John, like his father, lived a simple life; a no frills kind of guy. “He is a simple man.”

The family would like to thank Dr. Muller, Dr. Strizch and the nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center for the skilled and compassionate care extended to John.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Bruckman) Zupan; two sons, John (Bonnie) Zupan of Selkirk and Nick (Carol) Zupan of Glenmont; two sisters, Marion Zrelak and Catherine Zupan both of Selkirk; two granddaughters and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Michael (the late Pauline) Zupan.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family on Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.

Those who wish may send memorial contributions in John’s memory to the American Heart Association, NE Region, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA. 02241 or Historic St. Mary's Church Restoration, 10 Lodge Street, Albany, NY 12207-2196.
