Wong, Lucy E.

ALBANY - Lucy Esther Wong, 89, died peacefully in her sleep at Kingsway Arm Nursing Center Thursday, December 29,2022. Lucy was born in Albany in 1933. She attended Livingston Junior High, and graduated from Albany High School in 1951.

From an early age, Lucy dedicated her life to service and activism. Whether caring for family, friends and her beloved Ten Broeck Triangle Lucy was always willing to lift spirits and help improve the lives of others. She was a life long gardener, and gifted the fruits of her labor to anyone who would accept them. She spent countless hours volunteering with the food pantry, in her church, in her neighborhood and as an advocate for historic preservation.

Lucy was known throughout the city for her no-nonsense ability to get things done. In 2004 Lucy Wong was honored byThe American Institute for Public Service with the Jefferson Medal for public service. Anhonor she was humbled by. Lucy was a secretary at Bethlehem Steel where she worked for over 30 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Fong Wong and her siblings, Harold, Edward, Helen, Harriet and Stanley. She is survived by 8 nephews and 4 nieces.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 12 noon in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 275 State Street Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call prior to the service at the church from 10- 11:45 am. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
