ALBANY- Elizabeth M. Wilson, 92, passed away at home September 21, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Watervliet, N.Y. to Elizabeth (Walsh) and William O’Connell. Betty graduated from The College of St. Rose in 1941 where she was crowned the Rose Queen. She was employed at GE during World War II, where her job title was “computer”. She also taught Math in the Watervliet schools until 1951. She served for many years as the Girl Scout Council cookie chairperson and also on the Girl Scout Board. Betty was a communicant of St. James Parish (now St. Francis of Assisi) where she served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. Betty’s greatest enjoyment came from raising her nine children, spending time in her garden, reading, listening to classical music & opera, and playing with her 16 grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Frederick Wilson, and her loving children John, James (Elaine), Robert (Meg), Tony (Terrie), and Patricia Wilson, Mary (Steve) Scheiber, Nancy (Peter) Stevens, Kathleen (Thomas) Anderson, and Susan (John) Gaurnier. She is also survived by her sisters Helen Lettko and Mary Holton, both of Watervliet NY; her brother James (Sharon) O’Connell of Skaneateles NY; 16 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Linda Haake for her loving care of Betty for many years, and to Community Hospice for their wonderful support.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012 at 9:45 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home, Sunday from 3-6 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
Contributions in Betty’s name may be made to the memorial fund of St. Francis of Assisi parish or to Community Hospice.
