WILLSBORO, NY- Hubert McNamara “Hugh” Williams, 85, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
Born in Albany he was the son of the late Hubert J. and Frances (McNamara) Williams. Mr. Williams was a graduate of the former Vincentian Institute and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War era.
Mr. Williams taught fourth and fifth grades in the Schenectady and Bethlehem School Districts from 1962 until his retirement in 1995, and was loved by his students. He founded the Outdoor Education Program in Bethlehem, and impacted many lives through his work at Camp Opportunities.
He was a member of Trout Unlimited, an avid fisherman, and loved his pets. Mr. Williams especially enjoyed fishing trips with his sons to Alaska.
He was formerly the husband of 35 years of the late Robin (Bowdish) Williams; father of Matthew (Stephanie) Williams of So. Portland, ME, Pieter (Christiane) Williams of Freeport, ME and Rebecca (Eric) Williams of Altamont, NY; grandfather of Sophia, Elena, Morgan, and Haley; brother of James R. (Sophia) Williams of Colonie, NY,and Joyce Williams of Willsboro, NY. Also survived by his nieces Terry, Diane, Carolyn, and nephew James.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 9 at 10:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with the family Thursday, March 8 from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. A private burial service will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
