William J. Blanchard Jr.

After a long illness, William “Bill” J. Blanchard, Jr., 77, passed away May 11, 2024, in Colonie, with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born to William and Lillian Blanchard on August 28, 1946, in Albany, NY. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid and loyal Red Sox fan. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time at the family cabin in Gananoque, Canada.

Upon graduating from Bethlehem Central High School, Bill joined and was given an early honorable discharge from the Navy Reserve.

Bill spent the majority of his career working for Verizon. He held several positions starting in construction and eventually becoming a second-level foreman. Although he retired in 1994, he remained a devoted friend to many there. Following his retirement, he became a part-time bus driver for Bethlehem Central Schools where he also made many cherished friendships.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Judith Brush Blanchard, sharing 52 years of marriage together. Bill was the devoted father of William III (Cindy), Fort Myers, Florida, and Michael, Glenmont, NY, and proud grandfather of Harper Blanchard.

In addition to his wife and sons, Bill is survived by loving siblings Irene Blanchard, Donna (John) Dunford, Art (Kathy) Blanchard and Charles (Kirsten) Blanchard. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

The family would like to thank the very devoted and caring staff (at all levels) at Peregrine Senior Living, Colonie Memory Care for going over and above in all their care, they offered Bill and his family these last few months.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date and will be announced.
