DELMAR- Helen (Groesbeck) Wiegand, 95, passed away, Saturday, June 30, 2012 after a long illness, at the home of her daughter, Charlotte McElroy. Born in New Scotland, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Countryman) Groesbeck. Helen currently lived in Albany but lived most of her adult life in Delmar.
She was a very spiritual woman who read her Bible and Scriptures daily. She loved being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved working in the garden, reading and doing word search puzzles. She also collected cardinal (strawberry bird) decorations.
Helen was one of the first school crossing guards in the City of Albany. She loved wearing her uniform and taking care of the children.
She was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Stuart F. Wiegand; six brothers and three sisters. Survivors in addition to her daughter include her six grandchildren; Robert (Leah), David, Sandra, Danielle, Michelle McElroy and Deborah Kosakowski; thirteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service from 4 to 7 pm. Interment will be on Saturday in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sand Creek Rd., Colonie. NY.
