ALBANY-Rosemary (Sgambelluri) Van Alstyne, 89, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Teresian House. Born and educated in Albany she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline (Leone) Sgambelluri. Mrs. Van Alstyne retired from the NYS Teachers’ Retirement System after many years. She was a Communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and a member of the Italian American Club on Washington Ave. Ext. in Albany.
She was the wife of the late George B. Van Alstyne; mother of Marlene (Joseph) Scanlon of Kendall Park, NJ; sister of Theresa Bonanni, Frank (Ann) Sgambelluri, Michael (Yvonne) Sgambelluri, Anthony (Grace) Sgambelluri and the late Joseph and Arthur Sgambelluri; sister-in-law of Arlene Giroux and Jean Salerno Sgambelluri; grandmother of Kelly Dorow of Avon Lake, OH, Patrick Scanlon of Raleigh, NC, Andrew (Karen) Scanlon of Ellsworth, ME and Carol Scanlon of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Ave., Schenectady NY 12304.
