Underwood, Frances M.

DELMAR - Frances M. Underwood (Montesano), 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital with her family at her side.

Fran was born in Albany on January 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Jane (Dottino) Montesano. She was the Manager of the File Bureau for Verizon retiring after more than 30 years of service. Fran then went on to work at Filene’s and Macy’s retiring in 2013 to spend more time in her most cherished role as Mema to Jake and Jackson.

Fran loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it be going shopping or going out to eat, she treasured their adventures together. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at St. Thomas working the hot lunches and seeing all the kids. She also valued her work with the Democratic party where she was a devoted election worker.

Fran is survived by her two children, Tanya (Don Byerly) Underwood and Kirk Underwood; two grandchildren, Jake Frazier and Jackson Underwood; one sister, Josephine Montesano. She is also survived by her two nephews and a niece, Matthew (Karin) Montesano, Maurice (Lynn) Scavullo and Erika (Dan Bushey) Ellsworth and four great-nephews. Fran was pre-deceased by her sister, Annamae Scavullo.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Fran’s family on Friday March 3, 2023 from 5-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday March 4, 2023 at 10 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar. In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Frances M.
