Thomas M. Reith

June 9, 1963 — June 3, 2024

ALBANY- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Michael Reith who left us on June 3, 2024, at the age of 60. Tom’s unwavering dedication to his family, every dog that came into his path, his passion for sports, and his enduring love for his nephews defined a life well-lived.

Born on June 9th, 1963 in Albany, NY, he was the son of Marie (Viglucci) Reith and the late Francis Reith. Tom defined Albany through and through. His early years were spent in the South End of Albany where he not only developed a proficiency for good-natured trouble making, but also significant athletic ability. Tom was a multi-sport athlete for Albany High School, and a regular at every local park, never missing an opportunity for a challenge. A devoted fan of the Lakers, 49ers, and especially the Yankees, his TV seemingly only had two channels. ESPN and the YES Network.

Tom’s commitment to his family was evident in everything he did. He helped raise his nephews from birth. He was their biggest supporter, guiding them with his hard-working nature, routine, and a steadfast belief in their potential. Be it paint on bedroom walls, doors in garages and living spaces, or even dogs sprawled out panting from their 5th walk around the block, his fingerprints are everywhere in the lives of his family.

A hardworking man, Tom dedicated over 35 years of his life to his career as a member of the Department of General Services for the city of Albany. His colleagues remember him not only for his dedication and diligence but also for his generosity and willingness to help others. Tom’s work ethic was matched only by his boisterous conversations and vehement dedication to his principles.

Tom’s love for sports extended beyond the Yankees. He enjoyed playing and watching a variety of sports, and his weekends in his youth often found him at local parks, coaching or showing off his athletic ability to his nephews. His competitive spirit never wavered. Whether shooting basketball on the street, playing wiffle ball in the yard, or bowling down at Action Lanes, Tom never let anyone get the best of him.

Tom’s family transcended that of human life. Henri, Coco, Kono, Tyson, Kobe, Drogon, Arya, and the Roxy’s were but a few members of his 4-legged family. There are many quotes about dogs being the ultimate judge of character and not even one failed to gravitate towards Tom’s fun-loving personality.

Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and resilience. His memory will forever be cherished by his mother Marie, his brother Frank (Karen) his sisters Cheryl and Carolyn, his nephews Adam, Matthew, Brian, Jimmy, and Andrew, and his family at the Albany DGS. A special thank you to Olivia and the amazing staff of the Samaritan Hospital ICU who made challenging times heartwarming and unforgettable.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Monday June 10, 2024, at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave. Albany from 4-7pm, followed by his Funeral Mass at St Francis of Assisi Parish 391 Delaware Avenue on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, at 9:30am with a procession to St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in his honor. Online condolences may be offered at danielkeenanfuneralhome.com
