Sweeney, Karen M.

ALBANY-Karen (McDonough) Sweeney, 81 years young, passed away peacefully and much loved at Teresian House on Friday, June 9th, 2017.

Born in Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Jane McDonough and was retired from the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance.

Karen will be so greatly missed by her children, Kathleen (Bud) Lombardo, Lisa, Beth, James Jr. and Michael Sweeney; her grandchildren, Justin and Ryan (Ashley) Lombardo; great grandson Anthony; siblings, David (Barbara) McDonough and Terry (Gary) Campbell; dear friends, Anne Hans, Ken and Mary Westervelt, June Downey, Janet Quinnan; special much loved cousins Maureen (Leo) Johnson, Marcia (Mike) Pleninger, Ellen Dalton Izzo; many nieces and nephews, and many other caring and loving family and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Margot Herbert and her brother, Michael McDonough.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Karen’s family on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. A funeral Mass to celebrate a wonderful and unique life will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany. A ceremony of Christian Burial for family and close friends will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Karen’s name may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.
