SUTHERLAND, JAMES N.
DELMAR- James N. Sutherland, 78, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Roger and Freda Sutherland. Jim graduated from Watervliet High School, SUNY Morrisville as well as receiving his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from SUNY at Albany. Jim worked as an administrator for SUNY Central Administration until his retirement.
For his family Jim built a summer home on Saranac Lake, which was enjoyed by all who visited. Jim loved playing folk music on his bass or mandolin at various venues in the area with his close friend Don Whitlock and other area musicians. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, motorcycle touring on his Harley, hunting in Utah and Big Simond hunting camp. Memorable trips included many vacations to Europe and Our National Parks with his family and friends. At family gatherings, the evening was never complete without one of Jim’s humorous stories or jokes.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (D’Amico) Sutherland. He is survived by his daughter Jeanne (Jeffrey) Kennicutt of Slingerlands and his son, Daniel (Kathleen) Sutherland of Delmar; and his granddaughters, Alison Kennicutt and Alexandra Sutherland,
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 8:45 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Thomas the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home, Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 4-8 pm. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
