Smith, Robert W. Sr.

ALBANY-Robert W. Smith, Sr., 88, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Albany he was the son of the late Louis J. and Anna M. (Riley) Smith. Mr. Smith attended Albany Public Schools and was an Air Force Veteran. He was a service representative for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., now known as National Grid, for 37 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Smith was a longtime Communicant of the former St. John’s/St. Ann’s Church in the South End. He enjoyed model railroading and being technically proficient on the computer, managing the family’s pictures.

He was the husband of the late Edith (Person) Smith; father of Robert (Holly) Smith, Jr., Mary (Brian) Courter and Theresa Daniels; brother of the late Lois Martin and Genevieve Weber; grandfather of Jaime Linneman, Kevin Smith, David Smith, Terri Murray, Jeffery Smith, Adrianne Smith, John (Krista) Courter, Nichole (Eddie) Daniels, Michele (Aaron) Daniels, Stephen Daniels and the late Robert W. Smith, III; great-grandfather of Courtney, Mikayla, Taylor, Brianna, Macee, Benjamin, Stephen, Savanna, Evan, Luke and Allison. He also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Tuesday August 21, from 4 to 7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. The parish family of Christ the King will meet for a service of prayer and remembrance at 4:30 pm. All are welcome.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 22, at 10:00 am in Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave. Guilderland. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
