ALBANY- Paul J. Smith, PhD. 80, passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Joseph Anthony and Marion Delaney Smith. He graduated from CBA, received his undergraduate degree from Siena College and his doctorate in organic chemistry from Florida State University.
Dr. Smith was head of the chemistry department at Siena College where he taught chemistry and retired after 40 years of service to the college.
Dr. Smith was a life-long coin collector and member of the American Numismatic Association. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society. Dr. Smith was a communicant of St. Francis Chapel and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
He is survived by his sisters Barbara Reilly (Jack) of Dorset, VT and Mary Trono (Tom) of Glastonbury, CT; 8 nieces and nephews and their families.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 14 at 10:00 am in St. Mary of the Angel Chapel at Siena College. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit prior to the Mass from 9:00-10:00 am. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Siena College, Chaplains Office, 515 Loudon Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.
