Sister Paula (Pauline) Slama, DC died Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Louise House in Menands. Sisterwas born June 22, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, NY. andwas predeceased by her parents, Anna (Scasny) and Frederick Slama,her sister Anna and three brothers, Andrew, John Joseph, and Steven Peter.
Sister was a graduate of Cathedral Academy, Albany, NY in 1947. She entered the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul in December 1953 at Emmitsburg, MD. After initial formation, she served as an educator in elementary and high school for 53 years in Utica, NY; Baltimore, MD; Johnson City, NY; Wilmington, DE; and Pottsville, PA. She also served as a docent at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg. She was named as local superior during her stay in Binghamton, NY. She received a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, MD and a Master’s in Education from Boston University. In 2009 Sister came to St. Louise House in Albany, NY, where she served in the ministry of prayer until her death.
Sister Paula is survived by her nieces, Theresa Mullineaux and Nancy Slawta, other relatives and friends and her Sisters in community.
A wake service will be held for Sister Paula on Tuesday, April 20 at St. Louise House, Albany, NY at 7:00 pm in the DePaul Chapel.
Sister Paula’s funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, April 21 at 10:30 am., followed by burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
