Shirley A. Mccartan

GUILDERLAND - Shirley McCartan, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 24, 2025. Born and raised in Albany, she was the daughter of the late William and Agnes Kane Armstrong. After graduating from the Academy of the Holy Names, Shirley began working at the NY Telephone Company. On June 7, 1958, she married J. Kevin McCartan, and together they raised their family. She then worked as an administrative assistant, retiring from the NYS Dept of Education. Shirley was very involved in her church, Christ the King. She enjoyed traveling, going to camp on Lake Luzerne, bowling, playing cards, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dogs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband J. Kevin McCartan.

Shirley is survived by her children, Bill (wife Kathy), Kathleen Wissing, Colleen Walter (husband Jeff), Kevin (wife Kimberly Bell); her grandchildren, Erin McMillen (Brandon), Shannon Fink (Blake), Bill McCartan (Laura Maas), Brian Wissing, Luke Walter, Kiera Wissing, and Drew and Brook Harrig; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday January 30th from 4 to 7pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. A Mass of Christain Burial will be offered on Friday January 31st at 10am at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Albany, followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery.
