Shea, Joseph G.
ALBANY- Joseph G. Shea, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Elmira, NY he was the son of the late John D. and Marie E. (Catlin) Shea. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena College in Loudonville in 1952. Mr. Shea was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for New York State as an accountant in various agencies, retiring from the Department of State in 1986 after 38 years of service.
Mr. Shea was a Communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where he was active in Cathedral Social Services. He was also a member of the Cathedral Conference of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and an active volunteer with Birthright.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years Joan (Mullin) Shea; children Brian Shea of Florida, Ann Marie (Rocco) Calabrese of Albany, Trisha (Tony) Guzek of Clarksville, Colleen (Alan) Salzer of Albany and David (Melissa) Shea of Colonie. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 6, at 11:00 am in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, corner of Eagle St. and Madison Ave., Albany. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family at the Church prior to the Mass starting at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Cathedral Social Services, 125 Eagle St. Albany, NY 12202.
