DELMAR – Martin Scully, 98, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.

Born in Schenectady to Martin and Elizabeth Scully, he attended schools in Schenectady, graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1941. Mr. Scully served in the US Navy from 1941-1947, and sailed on the USS Albany from 1943-1947 as a Pharmacists Mate Second Class. He attended St. John’s University and graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy in 1951. He was a pharmacist at area hospitals including St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy and Albany Medical Center.

Martin was a very hard working man. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed camping and canoeing with his family at Forked Lake State campground in the Adirondacks.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Isabelle; his brother Robert Scully; sister Elizabeth Hobbs (John “Jack”); son-in-law John Thurlow; sisters and brothers-in-law Clara and Nathan Wild, Mary Ann and James Kelly and Sr. Mary Theresine Glock, RSM.

He is survived by his children Martin Scully, Jr. (Lynne Rockwood), Madeline Thurlow, Mary Chris Schultz (Christopher), and Charles Scully (Beth); grandchildren; Hope, Spencer, Erin, and Katelyn; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martin’s family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care that he received both at Kingsway Manor Assisted Living and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady especially during these past 18 difficult months of the pandemic. The family also wishes express deep appreciation to Sr. Mary Frederick Coyne, SNJM for her visits and friendship.

Funeral services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Martin’s memory may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church Pastoral Care Program, 35 Adams Pl, Delmar, NY 12054 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, NENY, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205.
