ALBANY- Dorothea F. (Luther) Scott, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Frank Luther and Dorothea Miley. Raised by her grandmother Mary Rings in Delmar, Dorothea graduated from Bethlehem Central High School and Mildred Elley Business School.

While working for New York State she met her future husband James and they married in 1963. Dorothea left her job with the State when her daughters Renee and Michelle were born. She later returned to work for the City of Albany until her retirement in 1999.

Dorothea was a quiet person, known for her quick wit and sarcastic way. She could be rather outspoken but always loving and kind. She was strong, resilient and the pride of her family.

She was an avid shopper and enjoyed her Saturday shopping trips and of course watching QVC. She loved gardening and carefully choosing just the right seasonal flowers. She enjoyed yearly family vacations to Ocean City Maryland and feeding the seagulls. Dorothea was a fan of Westerns, scary movies and murder mysteries.

Holiday dinners were a favorite and spending time with family and friends was her greatest joy.

She was a faithful companion to her beloved husband James; a devoted mother to Renee and Michelle and most of all, she adored each of her grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart Shelby, Will, Sam and Scott. She also had a special place in her heart for her sons-in-law Bill and Lee. She is also survived by her cousin Marcia Signer; dear friends Brenda Unright, Marianne Lyman Murphy, Jim Lyman, and Dan Lyman. Affectionately known as the crazy cat lady, she will be missed by her cat Houdini aka Dean. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Pitts, William and John Miley.

A special thank you to Marianne who cared for Dorothea so compassionately in her final hours.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Monday, September 13, from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc, 490 Delaware Ave. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 14 at 11:00 am in The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Masks are required. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Donations in her memory may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Albany, NY 12204,
