Rotundo, Mario

ALBANY-Mario Rotundo 87 passed away Saturday April 10, 2021 at St. Peters Hospital. Mario was born in Gimigliano, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1960 to Newburgh, NY where he lived for 10 years before coming to Albany, NY. Mario was a proud hardworking member of Laborers’ Local 190 and he retired after 28 years.

Gardening was Mario’s passion. He grew vegetables, fruit trees, flowers and his beloved grapevines which he made his famous homemade wine, which he loved to share. People in the neighborhood often stopped to see and admire Mario’s garden and flowers. He had a true gift for making things grow.

Mario is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Grazia, their children, Luigi Rotundo (Laurel), Sarah Schumann and Michael Rotundo (Tracy Winnie), their grandchildren Jonny, Jennifer Schumann (Tom), Mikey (Chelsea), Nicky, Amanda Wrobel, Cheyenne and their great grandchildren Tommy Bishop, Michael, Maverick and Mason Rotundo. He is also survived by many family members and friends.

Mario’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 12 noon in St. Francis of Assisi Church 391 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his family at St. Francis Church prior to the Mass on Thursday from 9:30 am to 11:45 am. Masks, social distancing and occupancy restrictions will be observed. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Flowers should be delivered directly to St. Francis Church on Thursday morning.
