Rose Ann Desorbo "Rosie"

March 24, 1952 — June 20, 2024

Rose Ann DeSorbo “Rosie” 72, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 20th, 2024, at St. Peter's Hospice.  Born in Albany, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Garufi) DeSorbo.

She is predeceased by her brother Frank (Dawn) and survived by her siblings Joe (Barbara), John (Christine) & Mary, Rosie’s beloved nieces & nephews, Mike, Stephanie, Chris, Gina, Doug, Blake, and a great-niece & nephews.

Rose graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School. From the age of 16, she worked for Carnival’s Supermarket until their closing. Rosie worked for the NYS Department of Economic Development for 40 years until she retired in 2009. She was an integral part of the “I Love New York” campaign and was very proud to share photos of New York’s most beautiful places.
During her employment with NYS Department of Economic Development she had a spirited passion to ensure that her coworkers were treated fairly on the job and served as CSEA’s Local President for her state department for over 35 years. Her dedication for the rights of workers to be treated with respect catapulted into her extensive involvement in CSEA and beyond. This involvement included serving on: the Board of Directors as Vice President for the Capital Region; the Area Labor Federation as a delegate to the international union AFSCME; CSEA Statewide Election Committee Judicial Board and many other committees. Upon her retirement she was a member of CSEA’s Retiree Local 999. All of these efforts helped working families throughout the state attain financial security during their careers and into their retirement years. Rosie did love the union.

Rosie enjoyed a day at the racetrack, the casino, loudly playing cards or games with family and friends, singing, dancing, relaxing by her pool, and debating with people she loved. She was a fierce competitor. Going out to eat, our biggest food critic! Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Anyone who knew her could attest to her huge personality and enjoyed being in the company of her laugh and raspy voice. She left an unforgettable imprint on our hearts.

Many thanks to the staff at the Westmere Dialysis, St. Peter’s Hospice and Dr. Lance E. Sullenberger at Capital Cardiology for their compassionate care.
