ALBANY – Frances V. (Rankey) Rooney, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2012 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family at her side. Born in Colonie, she was the daughter of the late Claude R. and Ida (Karins) Rankey. She was predeceased by her loving husband John J. Rooney. Frances was a 1944 graduate of Roessleville High School. She retired in 1981 from the Fiscal Office of the New York State Assembly. She was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church, now Christ Our Light Catholic Church. She was a member of the Fuller Road Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Hart Social Center, and the Red Hats.
Frances was the loving mother of Sheila (Vincent) Scalzo and the precious grandmother of Brian (Samantha) Scalzo. Her life was further blessed on January 20, 2012 with the births of twin great-granddaughters, Addison and Olivia Scalzo. Frances was predeceased by her sister, Ida (Dottie) Ryan Ebel and her brother, Claude “Bud” Rankey, Jr. Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Charlotte Salisbury Rooney and Mary Frances Rooney McCabe as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful to members of the staff of St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their many acts of kindness and support while Frances was in their care.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence Christ Our Light Catholic Church 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 4 to7 p.m. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
