Rizzo, Marian H.

d. November 18, 2011

Albany- Marian H. (Manupella) Rizzo, 89, passed away at home, Friday, November 18, 2011, just five months after her late husband, Louis A. Rizzo. Mother of Marianna Rizzo of Crofton, MD; Louis V. Rizzo and his companion Betsy Ruslander, Susan Rizzo and Helen Rizzo, all of Albany; grandmother of Robert Kipper, Jr. of East Berne and Sally (Kipper) and her husband Chris O’Connor also of Albany; and great grandmother of Christopher and Carly O’Connor.

Marian was the oldest of eight, born in Lansingburgh, on January 29, 1922. Daughter of the late Joe and Helen (Maslott) Manupella; survived by her sisters Josephine Pratt; Henrietta Phillips, and Rosemarie Manupella, all of Troy and Helen Taylor of Liverpool; and her brother Joseph G. (Kay) Manupella of Troy. Pre-deceased, by her brother George Manupella and sister Margaret Elting Siler, each of Troy. Also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her Godchildren Eddie Phillips of Troy and Richard (Dickie) Tompkins, of Baldwin.

Marian graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1941. At 12-years-old she started working part-time at her Zia Felcia Mancello’s Confectionary Store where she remained for over 20-years. Her career began at First Trust Company (now Key Bank), a bus ride into Albany, where she worked from 1941 to 1954. She met her husband of 57-years at a bowling tournament in Buffalo, NY. The question always remained who was the better bowler. In 1955, she became Secretary and Treasurer of Charles Springer Welding Works, Inc. and started a family of 4 during the next four consecutive years. Being the oldest of 8 brothers and sisters, Marian always thought of others first. She was the primary care-giver of her mother-in-law Assunta, an Italian immigrant who spoke little English, and passed away at 92 years old. Marian was dedicated and a long time member of Albany Lodge of Elks #49 Auxiliary, formerly treasurer of the Albany Columbiettes Council #173, St. James Church (now St. Francis of Assisi) and the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society Auxiliary.

Marian was very generous to both her family and friends. She is known for the best lasagna and her familiar saying, “Go from day to day, when tomorrow comes, you worry about it then and the past is the past”. She is thought of with love and affection and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish (formerly St. James Church), 391 Delaware Ave. where a Catholic Mass will be offered in celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 4 to 7 pm.
