ALBANY- James Donald Riley, “Don”, 95, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital on January 7, 2023. A life-long Albany resident, Don was the son of the late Jim and Kathryn Riley and husband for66 years of the late Anita “Nettie” Riley.
A graduate of St. James Institute and Christian Brothers Academy, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Serrano ATF 112.
Don was a Communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #30, Knights of Columbus #173, and a member of IBEW Electricians Local 724/236 since 1949, retiring in 1993.
Don is survived by his children Donna Sullivan (Jeff) of Albany, Michael Riley (Maureen) of Hilton Head, SC, Mark Riley (Susan) of Southport, NC, Matt Riley (Leslie) of No. Greenbush and Cathy Daley (Bob) of West Dennis, MA; also 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife Nettie, he was predeceased by his sisters Marion Kelly Ryan, Dorothy Rositzke and Sister Catherine Riley RCSJ; nephews Rev. John T. Kelly and Bob Rositzke.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his family at the Church prior to the Mass from 9:30 am. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Albany, NY 12209.
