ALBANY - Bernice Westberg Riddoch died peacefully in her sleep at The Teresian House, in Albany, NY on April 30, 2013 at age 96. She was born on May 17, 1916 in Greeley, Colorado to Ole and Alma (Lofgren) Westberg, and was known affectionately as ‘Bea’ and also as ‘Gigi’ to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband William P. Riddoch, her sister Helen King, and her brothers Marvin Westberg and Rodney Westberg. She is survived by her sons James E. Reed and John O. Reed, her grandchildren, J. Eric Reed, Jason Reed, John-Michael Reed, and Cassidy Posey, her great-grandchildren Daniel, Deirdre, Kenan, and Lilly Reed, and her sister, Viola Bryan, her nephew Clark Lee Bryan and her nieces Linda Bryan Eaton and Jeffrey Ann Fiedor. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Margaret (Meg) Zimmerman Reed, and her former daughter-in-law, Connie Janson Reed, both of whom received great affection and respect from Bernice.

Bernice grew up in Greeley, lived in Cheyenne, Chicago, and Seattle with her first husband Robert S. Reed (deceased). Shortly after her second marriage to William P Riddoch (deceased) she relocated to Sarasota, Florida where she lived for 49 years. The last six years of her life were spent in the Albany, NY area in assisted living at Delmar Place, Delmar, NY and Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany to be near the loving care of her son Jim and his wife Meg.

Bernice was loved by all that knew her and she, in turn, simply loved life to the end. A memorial service to celebrate Bernice’s life will be held for the immediate family. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her so well at The Teresian House, and in lieu of flowers request that donations be made in her name to The Teresian House Foundation, 200 Washington Ave. Extension, Albany, NY 12203
