d. November 17, 2022

HALFMOON-With profound sadness we mourn the passing of Joseph H. Reohr, III (Jay) of Halfmoon. Jay passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, after a short, but heroic battle with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s. Born in Albany, NY in 1955, he was the son of the late Joseph H. Reohr, Jr. and Jean M. (Renak) Reohr.

A graduate of Albany High School, Delhi College, and the University of Syracuse at Utica, Jay received a BS in Construction Management. Jay began his career with Tougher Industries (1979-2006) where he was a Mechanical Estimator. He joined Turner Construction in 2006 as a Senior MEP Estimator where he worked tirelessly for 15 years. He continually postponed retirement because he truly enjoyed his work and the people he worked with.

Jay’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, particularly in Ogunquit, Maine. A lover of sun, sea, and nature, Jay was an avid and skilled photographer who captured his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed kayaking, woodworking and his Saturday mornings watching “This Old House” with Kim and his Dunkin coffee. Jay was adored by his family and friends. He was our companion and caretaker. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was an active member of First Church in Albany where he served as Elder, Deacon, reader, and member of many committees.

As a devoted husband and best friend, Jay shared a love story with Kim (Swasey) Reohr for more than 42 years. They were blessed with two sons Daniel Reohr of Latham and Stephen Reohr of Halfmoon who were taught well from their father how to be a good man. In 2015 Daniel married Shannon (Mott) and Jay’s daughter-in-law quickly became his “favorite child”. Jay beamed as Best Grandpa Ever to Logan and Evan Reohr. Jay is also survived by his sisters Janice Monaghan (Peter), Tyrell Bushnell (John), JoAnn Groat (Jay), his brother Chris Reohr (Jennifer), his Aunt Ardeth (late Uncle Fred) Crounse and his cousin Connie Myers; along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind too many friends to mention.

Jay’s family is thankful to his doctors and nurses at Samaritan Hospital and NYOH and the staff at Turner Construction for their support.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jay’s family on Monday, November 28, from 3:30 -7 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, at 10:00 amat The First Church in Albany, 110 N. Pearl Street, Albany. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Camp Fowler, 1790 Grand Blvd., Schenectady, NY 12309.
