ALBANY – In her 101st year, Mary H. (Pompi) Reilly, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush. She had just last month celebrated her goal of reaching the milestone age of 100!!!!
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Mario and Luisa (Cerasaro) Pompi. Mary was very proud to serve as an interpreter for young immigrant children at her school when she was a child. She was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School. Mary was a key punch supervisor with the Albany County Dept. of Social Services from where she retired . Prior to her county service she had also worked for New York State.
In 2014 she was awarded a Senior Lifetime Achievement Award for Business and Community Service, having been nominated by Catholic Charities. Mary was a communicant of the Parish of Mater Christi and former president of the Women’s Club at the Second Avenue Center. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Mary was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making her own clothes and children’s Halloween costumes. She was also famous for her cheesecake.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert Reilly and her siblings Antoinette Caputo (Luke), Louise Antoinette (Robert), Carl Pompi and Frank Pompi (Mary). She is survived by her children Robert L. Reilly, Jr. (Rose) of Delmar and Mary Louise Reilly of Albany; grandchildren Alexandria Keating (William), and Adriana Lanese; her great-grandchildren Mary Isabella Keating, Jack Reilly Keating, Mustafa Giovanni Lanese and Emma Anne Keating; step-grandchildren, Tammy Kuhn and Christopher Powell; step-great grandchildren, Cameron Kuhn and Austin Powell; cherished friends, Rosalyn Christie and Karen George and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She had recently connected through social media with her mother’s relatives in Anagni, Italy.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Nagaraja N. Patil and all the medical personnel; doctors, nurses, and support staff who have shown tremendous kindness and compassion to Mary over the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family Tuesday October 9, from 4-7 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Her services will be held Wednesday, October 10 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
