ALBANY- Salvatore S. Purello, 93, died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Teresian House. Born and educated in New York City he was the son of the late Charles and Nellie (Tornello) Purello. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII having served on the USS Leo in the South Pacific, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Mr. Purello was an engineer with Conrail for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Colonie Elks, Sheehy-Palmer VFW Post and the American Legion. He was a Communicant of the former St. Teresa of Avila Church.
Husband of the late Elsie B. (English) Purello; father of Michael C. (Kathleen) Purello of Albany and Stephen J. Purello of Schenectady; brother of Joseph (Dorothy) Purello of Chatham and Alfred (Chris) Purello of Newtonville; grandfather of Michael (Cheryl), MaryAnn, Nicole, Salvatore, and April Purello. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 9:15am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., thence to the Parish of Mater Christi (formerly St. Catherine of Siena Church), 40 Hopewell St., Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 4 to 7 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 310 So. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or the Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirmed, 600 Woods Rd., Germantown, NY 12526-5639.
