ALBANY- Joseph T. Pomakoy, 76, died Monday, May 13, 2013 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Reinisch) Pomakoy. He was a graduate of Albany High School. Mr. Pomakoy was a firefighter with the city of Albany for over 35 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a Communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish where he served as a Lector, a Eucharist Minister to the homebound and worked on the Church Bazaar for many years. He was a member for many years of the Bethlehem Elks where he was a past Exulted Ruler and a former State Vice President. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers.

Mr. Pomakoy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia (Foley) Pomakoy; daughter Erin (Peter) Losee of Clifton Park; grandsons Arcangelo and Joseph Losee; brothers Gerald of Selkirk and James of Pensicola, FL; sisters Jean Glasser, Joan Pomakoy and Barbara Mahar all of Albany, MaryAnn Weidman of Selkirk and Judy Pomakoy of Delmar. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers William, Robert, Francis and Andrew and his sister Margaret Ludwick.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc. 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Thursday May 16, 2013 from 4-8pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Francis of Assisi Memorial Fund, 391 Delaware Ave., Albany, NY 12209.
