Payton, John W.

ALBANY- John W. Payton, 91, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Schenectady Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Born and educated in Schenectady he was the son of the late Frank and Alice (Blackburn) Payton. Mr. Payton was a Corporal with the Army National Guard from 1947 to 1951. He retired from the General Electric Company as a Crane Operator in 1986 after a 43 year career. He had previously worked as a shipping clerk for the Maqua Company in Scotia.

Mr. Payton was a Communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and member of the Troy BPOE #141 and a former member of the Rotterdam Knights of Columbus.

Loving husband of 50 years of the late Isabel (Temple) Payton; brother of Helen Franklin of Schenectady and the late Rosemary Kane, Francis, Raymond, Benjamin and Charles Payton; also survived by many nieces and nephews and his dear sister-in-law, Bernice Payton of Rotterdam and her family, Thomas (Holly) Payton of Riverhead, LI NY and Kevin (Dana) Payton of Rotterdam and their children who have always been there for him.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 9th at 10:00 a.m.in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with John’s family at the funeral home Saturday from 9 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
