Patricia Anne Hayes

Patricia Anne Hayes,74, beloved spouse of Joseph Lawrence Guy and mother of Devon Michael Guy died in the Albany Medical Center ICU on October 1, 2023, consequent to severe head trauma from a fall she experienced on September 24. She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Hayes, her husband James Motta, Mary Anne Hayes and her husband Kent Peer. Patricia is the daughter of Thomas Hayes and his wife, the former Barbara O’Sullivan both originally from Glin in County Limerick. Ireland. Born in Yonkers, New York on January 13, 1949, the family moved to the Catskill in 1953. Patricia attended St. Patrick's grade and high school. She subsequently moved to Albany to care for her ailing mother. In Albany she attended and received her bachelor’s degree from Empire State College. Patricia initially found employment providing supportive services to physically and mentally challenged individuals in a halfway house sponsored by the State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. She subsequently worked for several years as a Program Reviewer for the State Office of Substance Abuse Services and Supports. Patricia loved horses and she enjoyed riding her horse Echo Lake Savory for several years. She was an avid athlete, completing the 1985 New York City Marathon finishing in four hours and fifteen minutes. Later in life Patricia suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. This did not deter her from pursuing her loves and interests. She volunteered to assist disabled individuals through riding at the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center which provides recreational riding and support to disabled individuals. She also continued to ride herself with assistance on a beautiful black horse named Wowonken, AKA "Mr. Wow". Patricia will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Albany, NY on October 11, 2023, at 7 pm. Calling hours will take place prior from 4 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home.
