McLEAN, VA- Barbara Ann O’Brien,74 of McLean VA, formerly of Albany NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and her caregivers on April 16, 2021 after a period of declining health.She leaves her sisters, Katherine O’Brien of Ipswich MA, Carol O’Brien Donovan (Jack) of Holliston MA, and brother Bill O’Brien (Juliette Fay) of Vineyard Haven MA, along with her nephews Adam Fay O’Brien (Kara) of Weymouth MA, Daniel Fay O’Brien and his fiancé Michelle Davis of Boston MA, Alex Donovan of Somerville MA, Ryan Donovan of South Boston MA, and grandnieces Katie and Maki O’Brien.She was pre-deceased by her parents, Katherine Garrow O’Brien and William H. O’Brien.

Barbara grew up in Albany NY and graduated from The Academy of The Holy Names in 1964.She later received a BA from SUNY Albany in 1968 and an MA from the University of Virginia / Charlottesville in 1970, which paved the way for her career as a Speech Pathologist.Barbara remained in Virginia after graduation and began her career in the Fairfax County School System and later moved to the LoudounCounty School System.She retired from Louden County in 2008 - a beloved Speech Therapist, Mentor and Friend.

After retirement, Barbara continued working as a volunteer and as a private consultant to a small group of cherished clients.She enjoyed traveling the world and keeping current with the political scene.

The family will gather at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands NY for a graveside service.Donations in Barbara’s name can be made to The Shepard Center, 1205 Dolly Madison Blvd., McLean VA22101
