ALBANY- John T. “Poppy” Moore, 82, passed away suddenly, Friday morning, September 30, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Born in Albany and a graduate of the former Philip Schuyler High School, he was the son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Schafer) Moore. John worked for the city of Albany Parks and Recreation Dept. from 1970 until the time of his death. He was a coach for many years with Whitehall Little League. Everyone knew “Coach” Johnny Moore. He will be remembered as the man everyone loved.
He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees and enjoyed attending Yankee games at the stadium with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Casey) Moore, his son William M. Moore and his siblings Anne DeCosmo, Dorothy Flanagan and William Moore. He was the beloved father of Deborah A. (James) Shufelt of Albany; cherished “Poppy” of Michelle Marie Shufelt and Melissa Leigh Shufelt both of Albany and cherished “grandpa” of John William Moore of Iowa. He is also survived by his twin sister, Virginia (Patrick) Ryan of Latham; daughter-in-law Joyce Moore of Iowa; cherished longtime best friends, Donny and Carol Carlino of Albany; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the cardiac floor at St. Peter’s Hospital for all of their help and support.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:30 am in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Sunday October, 2, 2011 from 3 to 6 pm. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in remembrance of Johnny’s late son, Billy Moore.
