MOKHIBER, LORRAINE V.


ALBANY-Lorraine V. Mokiber passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2010 following a fall. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine was born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 28, 1916 to the late Edward and Rachel (Fadel) Mokhiber and had eight brothers and sisters. Her brother Mitchell Mokhiber survives her. She was predeceased by her husband Edward (Eddie) Mokhiber whom she married in June 1940. Following WWII, together they established Mokhiber’s Liquor Store a business still run by her family.

She has three sons, Edward (Gail), Lawrence (Kathy) and the late Richard (Ronni). Her daughter-in-law, Dawn Mokhiber was her dearest friend and constant companion through all these years. Lorraine is also survived by her grandchildren, Lori, Melissa, Kara, Danielle, Ericka, Jessica, Sarah and Rebecca. She has nine great-grandchildren, James, Richard, Sam, Ryan, Lara, Chelsea, Sahara, Christopher Ryan and Christopher Michael; many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was a Communicant of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church and had served as president of the ladies auxiliary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Normanside Country Club.

The family would like to thank the staff from Albany Medical Center’s Emergency Department and Medical Intensive Care Unit for their extraordinary and compassionate care.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church, South Dove Street and St. George Place, Albany form 4 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
