EAST GREENBUSH- James J. “Jimmy” Miller passed away after a long illness on January 6 2013, at the Teresian House surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born on March 7, 1935 in Albany, NY, the son of James J. and Mae C. (McCarthy) Miller. He was raised in the south end of Albany and attended the Vincentian Institute graduating in 1953.He began working for the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company in Albany, in the mailroom. He proceeded through the bank and its subsidiaries in various capacities and retired after forty one successful years as Senior Vice President on Administration of KeyCorp. He successfully completed New York State Bankers Development Program held at West Point. Some of his many accomplishments were the responsibility of construction on many buildings in the Albany and other areas KeyCorp has a presence in, specifically creating a new skyline for downtown Albany.
Forever grateful of his good fortune, Jimmy felt a responsibility to give back to the community from which he came. This started very early in his career with his involvement in the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Disabled. He continued his involvement with the Center, becoming the Board president of the Center’s Foundation Board. He also was Board president of Saint Catherine’s Center for Children working on various projects in upgrading the facilities and improving the quality of service for the children. In East Greenbush, his second community he called home, he was involved in the East Greenbush Little League and Pop Warner Football for many years. He chaired in the expansion and renovation of the Holy Spirit Church and School, as well as being a lifelong communicant and usher at Masses. He was a member of many other boards and services that contributed to many communities in the area.
In private life, Jimmy was an adventurous traveler, seeing a large part of the world on his trips with friends and family. He was an avid golfer and member of Cordial Greens and later Normanside Country Clubs. He owned a house in Orlando Florida for many years and would spend winters in the Sunshine State. Jimmy was also an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees, New York Football Giants and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Eugene, who passed away in infancy. He is survived by his loving wife Dolores (Lopez) Miller, two proud sons James A. and Thomas A. (Kelly) Miller and a cherished granddaughter Sarah M. Miller. He also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
The family wished to that the second Floor Sec. A staff at the Teresian House and to Drs. Dincer and Ermalenko for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., Albany thence to Holy Spirit Church, E. Greenbush where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Thursday, Januray 10, 2013 from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Teresain House, 200 Washington Ave., Ext. Albany, NY 12203, the Center for Disability Services, 314 So. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or to St. Catherine's Center, 40 No. Main Ave., Albany, NY 12203. Interment, Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
