Metz, Virginia Dc Sr.

MENANDS- Sr. Virginia Metz, DC, 103, passed away in Menands on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Sister Virginia (Arlyne Virginia), was born on October 23, 1917 in Bath, NY to Henry John and Josephine Clara (Kruezberger) Metz. She had a brother, Henry and a sister, Audrey McCulloch.

She graduated from Cathedral Academy in Albany, NYin 1936; Sister entered the Daughters of Charity in March 1937 in Emmitsburg, MD.

After completing the initial formation as a Daughter of Charity, Sister began ministry in several Daughter’s hospitals in Buffalo, NY; Baltimore, MD; Jacksonville and Pensacola, FL; Boston, MA; Bridgeport, CT; Waterville, ME; and Rochester, NY. She served as a most respected Director of Medical Records as well as administrator for major hospital construction and Provincial House construction projects.

In 1990 she joined the administration at DePaul Provincial House in Menands, NY and in 1994 became assistant to the Provincial Treasurer.

She had good health and remained alert and active until the last few months of her nearly 104 years.

She was predeceased by her siblings. She is survived by nieces and nephews, in particular, Sandra Paniccia; by numerous friends and her Sisters in the Daughters of Charity.

A Wake service for Sister Virginia will be held on Friday Sept 17thfrom 4-7 pm at the DePaul House Chapel 96 Menand Rd. Menands. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday September 18that 10 am in the DePaul House Chapel, 96 Menand Rd, Menands. Interment will be held privately in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
