Born in Philadelphia in1934, the son of Arthur and Ruth McHugh, he lived for many years in Delmar and Albany before moving to Newtonville. He and Catharine traveled frequentlywith the Siena Opera Club, attending performances at many of the celebrated opera houses of Europe. Late in his life he became an avid gardener, planting trees, shrubs, and flowers of various sorts - all purchasedat drastic price markdowns - throughout his property. He spent many contented hours tending to his horticultural domain.
