ALBANY - Sister Catherine Joseph (Mary Theresa) McDonough, Daughter of Charity, age 86, died at St. Louise House in Albany on December 29, 2020.

She was born in 1934 in Boston, MA to Katherine O’Loughlin and Patrick Joseph McDonough. Sister Catherine Joseph grew up in South Boston, MA with her 6 sisters. After high school, in 1952, Sister Catherine Joseph entered the Daughters of Charity.

Sister Catherine Joseph was well prepared for Elementary Education. She received a BS from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, MD; an MS from Niagara University, NY.

Sister Catherine Joseph served in Elementary Education and parish ministry for many years: St. Joseph Provincial House – Emmitsburg, MD (1952-1954); St. Charles School – Pikesville, MD (1954-1961); Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal School – Greensboro, NC (1961-1969); St. Ann School – Bridgeport, CT (1969-1971); DePaul Provincial House – Albany, NY (1971-1975); St. Joseph School – Holbrook, MA (1975-1981); St. James School – Johnson City, NY (1981-1993); Clark House – Binghamton, NY (1993-2004); St. Joseph Parish – Holbrook, MA (2004-2015); Ministry of Prayer – St. Louise House, Albany, NY (2015-2020).

Sister is survived by her 5 sisters, Peggy McDonough, Anna Mullen, Eileen McDonagh, Barbara Flaherty, Patricia Kelleher, many nieces and nephews, many friends and her Sisters in Community. She was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private wake service and funeral Mass will be held at St. Louise House in Menands on January 4, 2021.

Internment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
