ALBANY- Virginia A. (Porcaro) McCarthy, 83, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a short illness. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary (Durso) Porcaro and a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School. Mrs. McCarthy worked for the NYS Dept. of Tax and Finance and later for the Thruway Authority, retiring in 1986 after 35 years of service with the State. She was a Communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish; the former St. James Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edward F McCarthy; her children David (Karen) McCarthy, Edward “Chipper” McCarthy and Kathleen (Mark) Lanahan. She is sister of Leonard (Anita) Porcaro, Frank (Pat) Porcaro, John Porcaro, Marie (late Louis) Padula and the late Caroline and Vincent Porcaro; sister-in-law of Gertrude (late Eugene) and Clotilda ( late Richard) McCarthy; grandmother “Gonga” of Tristan, Lindsey and Colin McCarthy, Zachary and Claire Lanahan; great-grandmother of Tristan David and Blair; special aunt of Thomas (Mary) Porcaro; dear lifelong friend of Sandra Galanis; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 8:45 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 4-7 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
