ALBANY-William F. McCann, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, December 5, 2022, at The Teresian House. Bill was born in Utica, NY and attended St Francis De Sales High School. He was the son of the late Edward P. McCann and Margaret McGuinness McCann. Bill McCann started his career as a Union Steamfitter for Local in 79 in Utica in 1956 and retired in 1992. He took great pride in his years in the trade and gained many lifelong friendships along the way.

He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen McGuire McCann of 62 years. His four children, Gary McCann (Christine), Edward McCann (Elizabeth), James McCann (Judith) and Meghan Oelkers (Keith). A brother James Joseph McCann of Loomis, California and in-laws James and Rosita McGuire of Utica, NY. As well as 9 cherished grandchildren. Bill also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved like his own. He was predeceased by his brother Edward P. McCann and sister Barbara Ann Fraser.

The family extends their appreciation for the kindness and support shown by the staff and friends at The Promenade Assisted Living Community as well as The Teresian House. Bill was a sports enthusiast, avid fisherman, a true outdoorsman and a lover of all animals. In his retirement, he especially enjoyed creating stained-glass art and gardening.

His Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday,December 15 at 11:00 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 125 Eagle St. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited to attend to celebrate Bill’s life and legacy. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Melodies Center, c/oAlbany Medical Center Foundation, MC-119, 43 New Scotland Ave. Albany 12208.
