ALTAMONT- Dawn Marie Matteo, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, following a long illness. Bornin Albany, NY, in 1962, Dawn was the daughter of the late Mary and Donald Bigness, Sr. and the wife of Michael Matteo, Sr.

Dawn is survived by her loving children, Michael Jr. (Kait), Ashlee (Joseph Berrios), and Stephen (Felicia Banks). She was the adoring Mémè to Madelyn Berrios, Joseph Berrios, Michael Matteo III, and Lauren Matteo. Dawn was the much loved daughter-in-law of Florence and the late Richard Matteo. She is also survived by her sister Debra (Thomas) Orbon and her six brothers, Donald Jr. (Donna), Frank (Regina), Daniel (Pamela), Joseph (a/k/a Brett) (Karen), Robert, and Paul (Amanda). She also leaves behind her cherished in-laws, Ginny McDonough (Joe Cappadona), Cathy and Dan Musella, Joe and Mary Ellen Matteo, Michael Guldenstern, Christine and Bill Guldenstern, Patty and Michael Hoffman. Dawn leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews (too many to list), who she cherished immensely and who treasured their Aunt Dawn. In addition to her parents and father-in-law, Dawn was predeceased by her sister-in-law Anne Matteo Guldenstern and her brother-in-law Michael McDonough.

Dawn grew up in a large family in East Greenbush and attended Columbia High School. Dawn was honorably discharged from the United States Army. She worked at the Branch Office in downtown Albany for over 30 years. Dawn absolutely loved her annual family trips to Cancun with Paul McDermott and his family. While raising their young children on Elliot Avenue in Albany, Jerry and Kelly Watt and their sons played an important role in Dawn’s life and have remained steadfast friends throughout.

Above all, Dawn was devoted to her family and truly loved attending and hosting family gatherings. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren and her large, extended family (her chili dip was the best and she made sure it was at every get together).

The family would like to thank The Community Hospice, especially Erin Nickel, for their support and kindness. Dawn was welcomed home into the loving and awaiting arms of her Mom and Dad.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead Street, Albany, NY, Tuesday, January 18,at 9:00 a.m. It will be available live streamed athttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UERoZruJH4I Family and friends may call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany, on Monday, January 17,from 3-7 p.m. Masksare required for all services. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
