DELMAR - Mark “Pop” Frederick Wahl, born on April 16, 1956 in Fort Covington, NY, passed away at age 68 from cholangiocarcinoma in the early hours of Thursday February 6, 2025 at Albany Medical Center.
The self-proclaimed trouble maker knew he needed the structure of the Navy. He stepped foot on the USS Midway when he enlisted at age 18 and traveled the world until he retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. After settling down in Delmar, he found a new passion for helping others in nursing and nursing education where he mentored many, including those who would help take care of him in his final months. Outside of work, he enjoyed Zumba, gardening, and cycling.
Mark accomplished a lot during his life, but truly found the biggest pride in his family. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 45 years, Theresa; son, Michael and his wife Amanda and granddaughters Tessa and Emma; and son, Dayne and his husband Derrick. The tattooed navy veteran loved going for pedicures with Tessa and snuggling up with Emma. Mark is also survived by his brother Dayne Wahl and his wife Lisa, sister Mary Jo Trombley and her husband Jerry, brother Thomas Glasgow and his wife Allison, sister-in-law Shirley Farrell, sister-in-law Peg Sapel and her husband Bob, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark was preceded in death by his mother Joyce Glasgow, step-father Tom Glasgow, and sister Julie St. Louis.
There will be no calling hours. Entombment will be at a later date in the family columbarium at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Blanchard-Currey Post of The American Legion (directly at American Legion Post 1040, 16 West Poplar Drive, Delmar, NY 12054) or the new Maria College Mark Wahl Scholarship (visit www.mariacollege.edu/giving and put Mark Wahl in the comments, or mail a check to Maria College with Attention: Mark Wahl Scholarship).
