Margaret "Peggy" Schwartz

September 24, 1928 — November 4, 2024

SLINGERLANDS – Margaret A. Schwartz nee Dietrich, 96, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday November 4, 2024.

Born in Buffalo, NY, Peggy, as she was referred to by all, is survived by her children Mary Claire Bauer (Peter Brady) (deceased son-in-law Kevin J. Bauer), Elizabeth Riccio (partner Jim Walter), Michael Schwartz (Mary) and JP Schwartz (Brenda); and her grandchildren Christopher (Lauren), Molly, Luke (Katie Inger), Megan and Thomas; and former son-in-law Charlie Riccio.

Peggy graduated from St. Mary’s Seminary in 1946 and from D’Youville College in 1950.  She and her beloved husband Richard L. Schwartz MD (deceased), known as “Dickey, traveled extensively and especially loved London and the English countryside.  They had many adventures all over the world during their 60 years of marriage.

Peggy was a vivacious woman and made friends everywhere she went including many women at Beverwyck who were wonderful dinner companions.

It was impossible not to be drawn into conversation and charmed by her.

Peggy was an avid bridge player and a “jack of all trades: in numerous sports.  She loved to dance and she and Dickey enjoyed many fun filled evenings at the 20th Century Club, where she was a member until moving to Albany in 2008 to be closer to her daughters.

Peggy was a devout Catholic; her faith was very important to her.   She was close to the Saint Mary Nemur nuns and often requested prayers for special circumstances from the Carmelite Convent in Buffalo, NY.  Above all however, Peggy was a mom who loved spending time with her family.  She was generous and kind and enjoyed taking her family on wonderful trips to Skytop and hosting them for dinner at her home and at restaurants.  Surprisingly, she was a lover of wings and a cold Coors Light.  Her two daughters Mary Claire and Betsy and her granddaughter Molly, took loving care of her until the end along with Janet Brown, Cierra Walker and Kristen her wonderful hospice nurses.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

Peggy will be buried next to her beloved Dickey in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Sisters of St. Mary Nemur, 241 Lafayette Ave., Buffalo, NY 14213.
