RENSSELAER - Maryetta G. “Midge” Mackey 93 passed away Thursday August 15, 2013. Born in Camden, New Jersey on April 22, 1920, she was the eldest daughter of the late William and Mariah Goldwire. Maryetta grew up and lived the majority of her life within the Capital District. After graduating from Albany High School, Maryetta married Joseph J. Mackey Sr. and started a family consisting of seven children: Joseph Jr. (predeceased), Shirley, Juan, Charles, Clyde (predeceased), Medallia and Douglas. Raising a Navy family took them all over the world with Maryetta eventually planting roots back in Albany. Having earned degrees in nursing and teaching, Maryetta choose to work with the Albany Public School System. PS21 is where she retired from in 1992.
Maryetta G. Mackey is the sister to William A. Goldwire Jr., Earl L. Goldwire and Ruth Elizabeth Goldwire all predeceased.
Maryetta leaves behind five children: Shirley, Juan (Ann), Charles, Medallia, and Douglas; seven grandchildren, Antoinette Mackey, Anthony Hicks (Erika), Monique Mackey, Daniel Mackey, Nyree’ Preiser (Author), Johnette Baldock (Joseph) and Sherice Mackey; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Mackey, AzAziah Baldock, Marcus Preiser, Malcolm Preiser, Journey Baldock and Akire Hicks. She is survived by many, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
