Mackay, Sadye

COLORADO SPRINGS- Sadye Zilin Mackay, 91, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. in 1921, the daughter of the late Nikodemas A. Zilinskas and Mary Russell Zilinskas. Sadye attended public schools in Amsterdam and Ballston Spa and graduated Valedictorian of her class from Wilber H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam in 1938. She graduated Cum Laude from the New York State College for Teachers in 1942, and in 1946 from Albany Law School. She was admitted to the New York State Bar later that year. Sadye practiced law from her home and was the first "Lady Lawyer" to perform a criminal case in Albany County.

Married for over 59 years to David Sinnott Mackay whom she met at a picnic for young lawyers. They married after knowing each other only three months and enjoyed years of wedded bliss until David's passing in 2008.

Sadye and her late husband David are survived by four children: James Mackay (Carol) of Vienna, VA; David Bruce Mackay (Kim) of Collierville, TN; Dr. Marianne Mackay-Pearson (Erwin) of Philomath, OR; and COL (Retired) Robert Mackay, U.S. Army (Susan) of Colorado Springs, CO. Also survived by her sister Jane Zilin of San Diego, CA and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Maryanne Rosalind Zilin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in Parish of Mater Christi Church, 40 Hopewell St., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany Friday, May 31, 2013 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Interment, Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
