Lois Smith

GLENMONT- Lois Degearro Smith, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 3, 2024. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Degearro. Lois was a proud graduate of Vincentian Institute class of 1959, St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing, and she received her Master’s degree from State University of NY at Albany through SUNY Utica/Rome.  Lois was a registered nurse and worked at Albany Memorial Hospital, the former Brady Hospital, and St. Peter’s Hospital. She was also a nursing instructor with BOCES for 30 years and an instructor at Man Power Development Training program.  Lois was a long-time Communicant and active volunteer at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.  She was a member of the NYS United Teachers Union and was an exercise enthusiast especially running and cycling. She loved to travel and has fond memories of being a camper at Marion Lodge.

Lois is survived by her husband of 61 years Jerome and son Andy; her sister Anita Mullen (Michael); and nephew Shawn Mullen (Karen).

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday August 13th at 3:30pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl, Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with her family at the Church prior to the Mass from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
