Lena M. Flannery

Albany - Lena M. Flannery, 92, passed away on July 21, 2024 with her loving family by her side.

Born and raised in Albany, Lena was the cherished daughter of Italian immigrant parents Dominick Raponi, Maria “Mary” Raponi (Reali). She grew up in what was then known as Albany’s Little Italy. Lena worked in the banking industry for over 40 years starting as a teller at the young age of 18 and worked her way up to Student Loan Officer and retired at the age of 59.

In addition to her parents, Lena is predeceased by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Donald Cote and dear friends Anna Stiffen, Sally Russo, and Rita Isabella.

She is survived by her nieces Susan (Tom Burke) and Sandra (Joe Bertasso) who she loved, held dear, and treated like daughters. Lena is also survived by her former husband and friend Nicholas Flannery, Jr., and his three children, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren who refer to her as Mom and Grammy, who she loved, cherished and raised like her own, Erin Flannery (Mark Gregorek), Kelly Bink (Dave Phillips), Nicholas Flannery III (Tu), Heidi Hubbard (Mike Jeske), Nicole Sparks (Matt), Matthew Brady and the late Zachary Bink, Nicholas Flannery IV (Sarah), Kaycee and Ryland Jeske, Aubrey and Kyle Sparks, and Jordan Flannery.

Lena’s family and friends meant everything to her. She was a devoted Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend who loved spending time with and vacationing with family and friends as well as going on trips to the Racino and Saratoga Race Track.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their kindness and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lena’s family at The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Albany on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
