Laverne Brown

RENSSELAER - Laverne Brown, 86, born October 20, 1938, passed away on January 9, 2025 from Kidney failure at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Home.

Laverne worked at Child’s Hospital in Albany as a nurse’s aide, where she devoted many years until she retired in 2003.

Laverne loved to knit and spent countless hours listening to Motown songs. She would be singing away. Some of her favorite artists were the Temptations, the Marvelettes, the Contours and the Four Tops. When she wasn’t blasting her tunes, she loved to binge watch her favorite TV show, the Golden Girls with her late grandson Koshan. Most of all, Laverne loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Providing her unique sense of humor, support and unconditional love. Laverne was also the family historian. She will be remembered for keeping up with all the family names and birthdays. Whenever you wanted to know who’s birthday was coming up and their age- ask Laverne. She was never one to complain. Life was hard at times, but her ability to overcome adversity and loss made her an incredibly strong mother, grandma and auntie.

Laverne was the mother of seven children Angela Brown, Stephen Brown, Yvette and Yvonne Brown, Brian Brown and the late Marc Anthony and Sherry.

Her quiet nature, inner strength, compassion and gentle soul will be forever cherished.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday January 22, 2025 at 3 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Laverne’s family prior to her service from 2-3 pm in the funeral home.
