ALBANY- James M. Kulzer,70, died Monday, November 21, 2011 at home. Born and educated in Albany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Becker) Kulzer, Sr. Jim served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietman War. He was a Specialist 5. He was trained as a Tanker and upon graduation from Armor Training School, received an award for outstanding trainee for the entire company. Jim spent a year in Vietnam during the TET Offensive with the famed 69th Armor attached to the 4th Infantry Division. He was involved with the defense of Pleiku and Kontum. Jim took part in some of the fiercest fighting of the Vietnam War in which his tank hit a land mine. He spent his entire tour of duty in Vietnam in the field. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two overseas bars, National Defense Service Medal and Army Accommodation Medal. He was extremely proud of his Military service, but rarely spoke of his experience in Vietnam. Jim worked as a driver for Nagengast Florist for over 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish (former St. James Church) and was a longtime member of the Sheehy Palmer VFW Post 6776, Tri-County Vietnam Veterans and the DAV.

He is survived by his brothers Thomas and William (Ruby Morrell) Kulzer and his sister Linda (Thomas) Marinello; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Kulzer, Jr. and sister Joan Kulzer.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish (formerly St. James Church),391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home, Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 4-7 pm. Interment Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Tri- County Council Vietnam Era Veterans Memorial Fund, 142 Catherine St., Albany, NY 12202.
